Flintshire County Council says thousands of illegal tobacco products and around 150 banned disposable vapes were seized during two Trading Standards raids in Holywell and Connah’s Quay.

The council’s 24 September update says officers visited two properties and seized about 6,500 cigarettes, nearly 3kg of hand-rolling tobacco and around 150 disposable vapes. It put the total estimated street value of the goods at 3,200 pounds.

Flintshire says the tobacco products were counterfeit, non-duty paid or otherwise not compliant with UK sale requirements. The council describes the action as part of Operation CeCe, the national enforcement programme aimed at disrupting the illegal tobacco trade.

Why the vape detail matters

The vape element is relatively small compared with the tobacco seizure, but it is still relevant for adult vapers because the UK ban on single-use vapes is now in force. GOV.UK guidance says businesses must not sell, supply, offer to sell or stock single-use vapes for sale, and that leftover stock must be recycled responsibly.

For consumers, the safer route is to avoid products that look like banned single-use devices and to choose reusable, refillable or replaceable-pod products from legitimate retailers. Current GOV.UK consumer e-cigarette guidance also sets limits for nicotine-containing products, including a maximum 2ml tank capacity and 20mg/ml nicotine strength.

The Flintshire announcement is an enforcement report, not a court judgment on named products or businesses. It does not provide product brands, lab test results or details of any future prosecution. That means the useful takeaway is the direction of local enforcement rather than any conclusion about a specific device.

Adult smokers who have switched to vaping should also be wary of illicit supply chains. Non-compliant products may lack reliable labelling, notification or electrical safeguards, and illegal tobacco or vape sales can undermine legitimate retailers following age and product rules.
